Seven countries added to green list

The Government has announced that, as at 4:00am on Monday, 30 August, the following countries will move from the amber list to the green list:

  • The Azores (mainland Portugal is on the amber list)
  • Canada
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • Liechtenstein
  • Lithuania
  • Switzerland

Reminder of green list rules

Before travelling to England, you must (regardless of your vaccination status):

  • take a COVID-19 test
  • book and pay for a day 2 COVID-19 test
  • complete a passenger locator form

You must then take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 of your arrival in England. If the test result is negative, you won’t need to quarantine.

Additions to red list

As at 4:00am on Monday, 30 August, the following countries will move to the red list:

  • Montenegro 
  • Thailand

Reminder of red list rules

If you’ve been in a country on the red list within the last 10 days, you will only be allowed to enter the UK if you’re a British or Irish national, or you have residence rights in the UK.

Before travelling to England, you must (regardless of your vaccination status):

  • take a COVID-19 test
  • book and pay for a quarantine hotel package, including 2 COVID-19 tests 
  • complete a passenger locator form

Upon arrival in England, you must quarantine in a managed hotel and take 2 COVID-19 tests.

Traffic light list changes throughout the UK

These changes apply to travellers to England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

If you’re arriving in Wales, you must familiarise yourself with the requirements for other origin or destination countries before you travel, including looking on the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office site.
