International holiday destinations from 17 May 2021

Traffic light system

As you may be aware, the UK Government has introduced a traffic light system

to help the gradual opening up of international leisure travel from England and Scotland.

All countries have been placed on a green, amber or red list, based on the risk of exposure to COVID-19 whilst visiting. The Government will review these lists about every three weeks.

You should not travel to countries on the amber or red lists for leisure purposes.

Green list countries

So far, 12 countries have been placed on the green list.

You won’t have to quarantine or self- isolate upon your return from one of these countries, but you may need to take a PCR test before you leave, and again two days after you return to the UK.

It’s also important to note that this arrangement is not reciprocal. Each country maintains its own entry requirements, so, even though a country is on the green list, you may not be admitted.  See our table below for more details.

Travel to/from the EU

Leisure travel may still be quite limited at the moment, but don’t forget, the EU has outlined plans to welcome vaccinated leisure travellers from the end of May 2021.
